The AIA Members and European Regulation

AIA members play an active role in both Europe and the UK. All are affiliated to their equivalent European sector association and take a strong role in ensuring the interests of their UK members are fully represented.

The European community is a union of member states, each with its own traditions and executive powers. European legislation is passed by the European institutions, but is endorsed, enacted, controlled and enforced nationally by the member states. Furthermore each member state has the ability to initiate discussions regarding new legislation and, through the Council of Ministers, has a direct say in the “shape” of European legislation.

AIA members, as national sector associations, defend their members’ interests by continually monitoring the legislative and regulatory climate at both national and European levels, constructively participating in national and EU consultations and voicing industry concerns to government and other organisations.
